I have a 1990 F150 with the 302 engine. It will run for awhile and then shut off, as if you have shut off the key. I replaced the electronic ignition under the distributor and the TPS. No luck. Fuel pump works fine.
I am also getting the following codes: 14, 87, 32, 53
Code 14 (CM): Two or more successive erratic Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP) pulses occurred.
The PIP (aka Stator) is located inside the distributor. It's the sensor that triggers the ignition. It can be replaced but requires a few special tools. Most folks replace the distributor but be leery of "rebuilt" units because many times they have a bad PIP in them because they were never checked.
oriellys has rebuilt distributors for 99$ and NEW for 89$ .
Computer? They can't seem to tell on themselves if they're going bad.
Easiest is to sniff them for burnt smell, pull the covers and look for leaking capacitors.
Not a bad idea to check voltages TO the computer plug, check grounds etc.
I'm sure I've seen a writeup on here before.
I replaced the PIP in the distributor and it ran good for a while, then stopped and will not start at all now. Could the TFI that I replaced a while back have been a faulty one (I got it from Advance)?
