Transmission problem

I bought a pre-owned 1998 Ford winstar. The problem is that while driving, the transmission felt downshifted to a lower gear followed by a slip (the rpm revs) and then the gear catches on again after a few seconds. This happens many time. I have sent the car for repair at Ford dealer and they have changed the MLP sensor. But the MLP sensor did not helped solved the problem. I took the car back and when they test-drove the vehicle, nothing happens. The mechanic thought the problem might be the transmission speed sensor but he gave no guarantee that it was the problem. What's the advise from you out there ? Please help ?

Transmission problem

I'm not real familiar with the Windstar, but I have read a number of similar complaints that you have. Also with the OD light coming on. I also read a common defect is the Transmission Range Sensor. There are a number of service bulletins and complaints on the NHSTA.dot.gov web site that point to this sensor problem. Maybe this can help.
