I have a 2003 Eddie Bauer Excursion, and am wanting to get some replacement parts which I expect are no longer available from Ford. Perhaps one of you guys might have removed the part in question and be willing to sell/donate them.
The part in question attaches to each rear cargo door hinge assembly... the little bars which limit the swing opening of the barn doors. My previous Excursion had them, but my current one does not. Given the hilliness of where I live and frequently park the vehicle, I would like to prevent the doors from just gravity swinging wide open in a free "*****-nilly style" and stressing the hinges or smacking into something if rear clearances are tight.
I would post a picture, but can neither find one nor take one (because I don;t have the parts).
I know that a lot of folks just remove them to always have wide opening freedom, but I don't need that myself, and I know how to release the bars if I ever do need the fully wide open option.
Thanks ahead of time for any help you might be able to offer.
Check out Custom Auto's by Tim (405-282-6852) or Hi-Tech Auto in Buda, TX (512-243-3434). Both have served several members and myself quite lol in finding obscure parts.
I know exactly what you're looking for, personally I can't believe people just remove them altogether when it's just a little clip to push and release them temporarily...

Thanks for the tips. I'll give them a call. I wish I had a part number to start with, but I can certainly chase it to ground from scratch if no one here has any of those details.

Good question. I've had the vehicle now for about 4 years and have never noticed any sign of them. There is always a chance that I just didn't notice them if that is the case, though, because that has never been a possibility in my mind. I'll look this evening.
Gosh... things at work are wonky crazy right now, and by the time I got to the house last night from work, I forgot completely about looking for the parts in the doors last night.
However, once I get a few errands run after lunch, I'm starting the washing/detailing process on the Ex this afternoon and will investigate at that time.
You are correct that these are no longer available from Ford. But, there are quite a few dealers in the country that are available. There is also a place called Vintage Parts (Vintage Parts - Your Service Parts Inventory Partner) that buys obsolete parts from Ford and other manufacturers but I'm not sure they sell retail. They show quite a few of these and if they won't sell direct to you, your local dealer could get them for you if they are willing. Here is the part #YC3Z 7844100-AA.
Wow... $50-$60 each. Not sure I want to do that right now. With the help of the pqart number, though, I found another source this morning (quirkparts.com) which has them in stock for $33 each.
Wouldn't you know it, though. After 4 hours of washing and scrubbing the exterior on Friday afternoon, I never even got to the point of opening a single door to do the door openings and/or interior. YES, it was THAT dirty... shame on me! It does shine now, though.
Still, I have yet to look for the check arms still being in the doors. I had door lock cylinders to replace on one of my sons' Honda Civic on Saturday, and then had a set of front brakes to do on another son's 2000 Frontier after church yesterday! I also just seem to never even think about these check arms unless I get into a few spare minutes of "mind wander" at the office. I also had the "mother-in-law from out of town" distraction all weekend to boot. I'm putting this in my phone as an appointment with an alarm to remind me this evening!....
... THERE... the appointment is entered and the alarm activated! Hopefully, I'll get it taken care of this evening (MIL is also flying back home this afternoon!!).
OK. I guess the information you guys have might help others. I know that I've learned a few new parts resources, and am very grateful for that.
Regardless, the check arms were in fact pushed into the doors and are now firmly re-attached in their check position. I never even knew that they could be pushed into the doors, and had thought that you could only unclip them. I guess that is something else I learned as well.
Thanks again for all the help. I only wish it were always that easy of a solution.
