I have a 98 F150 4x2 V8 4.6L. For the past 2 or 3 months it has been shifting funny. From 0 to 40 mph it runs fine, then at about 45 the RPM's go real high then shifts pretty hard. then from 60 to 80 it runs fine but as soon as I go past 80 the RPMS's go up real high and I have to let off the gas to let it shift. for awhile there the overdrive off light would flash but it hasn't done it in a few weeks. I took it down to Autozone to have it checked for codes and nothing showed up. i really don't want to pay a shop just to look at it since they are all asking for more than 150 dollars. so if yall have any ideas i would appreciate it. thanks
well even though i posted this topic a few hours ago, i ended up taking my truck down to my local transmission shop at lunch. they just called me back and said that it is my clutch kit. my truck seems to be skipping third gear and going straight into fourth. so far he is going to charge me 350 dollars, just if he pulls out the transmission, looks at it, and puts it back in. but if i let him fix it then he doesn't charge me the $350, but just the parts and labor. didn't sound like that bad of a deal so i went for it. hopefully it doesn't come out to cost too much
well he just called today, my catalytic converter and transmission has chunks all through it. the transmission is ok but i am going to need a new catalytic converter, gaskets, a couple bearings and a clutch kit. all for the nice price of $1300. the things i do for my truck. but this price seems a little high right now, i am getting back tomarrow so i am gonna talk to him. does this price seem wrong?
well, he has done pretty good work with my past cars and the price was never to high. i talked to him this morning and he said that he will give me 10% off all the parts. what do you think the price should be around?
i am the biggest retard, for some reason i kept typing catalytic converter when i meant torque converter. i sat here for about 20 minutes trying to figure out why there would be a catalytic converter on my transmission. a big dummy i am. so now my truck is going to be at 5:00 with a new torque converter.
