I have the 5.4 with 55k miles. Runs fine for a mile or 2, but then it starts missing mainly while under moderate load. Coasting and hard accel smooths it out for the most part, but that middle range it just stumbles around a whole bunch.
took it to the parts shop to run the code and it looks like cyl 3 misfire and bad ignition codes. Any protips on accessing the #3? Prob going to have to remove some stuff to get in there.
Not sure how or why #3 would be that hard to access---its an easy grab from inside the cabin even with the passenger seat still in place. You might have to go more by feel than actual sight but I've never had any problems seeing what I'm doing.
A nice bright portable light would be very helpful---I use 1/4" drive tools to remove the COP, switch to 3/8" for plug removal and installing, torque to 21 ft/lbs.
The plug should be removed for inspection and replacement but most likely the code is for the COP itself----or the connector from the wiring harness. The locking tab holding it to the COP can break away from age or mishandling, an intermittent connection resulting and the PCM thinking its a bad component.
