I've got a 1988 F150 4X4 ,302,AOD trany 31X10.50 mud terains 8000 km on fresh rebuild by ford,rv cam,12 degre advance,shorty headers, K+N filter with the air box opened up (fresh air intake is necked down where it goes into the air box,anyone with one of these should open it up definite mid-topend gain), removed pre cat , and gutted the other(still looks legal). I get about 200km (about 130 mile) out of a tank of fuel. Now if thats normal thats fine with me, but friends with simular trucks tell me they get close to 300 km (180 miles) out of a tank. Am I getting poor mileage for what I have or not. Thanks for any info.

Two things come to mind, gears are to low with the 31 ties what gears do you have.
If they are pretty low, your truck will feel doggy, and get bad mileage.
Not sure if you need mass air with your upgrades, that may be the reason your getting bad mileage.
I say change your gears to 3.73 or 4.10’s that will really help.

That sounds normal eckart. I get the exact same mileage driving around town and a little better on the highway. I Reset my odometer after each refill and 200 km later its time to refill again. There are several discussions about mileage on this web site. Try searching for them and you will see that we are not the only ones with gas guzzlers. Fuel economy is probably the biggest disadvantage with a truck like ours but, mine has been very reliable and it's paid for.
