New one on me
Had an oil leak that I had to take care of. Looking from the outside on the side of the road it looked like either a rear valve cover leak or a pan leak.
Drip speed was about one drip every 45 seconds or one minute.
So I get underneath today to take care of it which I figured would just be a simple pan tighten or gasket replace.
Nope
Traced it to.......... nothing. The oil is seeping out of the block itself close to the filter. There seems to be the tiniest of cracks. But really can't see well.
In the picture the leak is under my finger, not anywhere where there is a parting line or anything.
I'm a little flummoxed. How the heck do you take care of that.
I'm guessing an oil pan underneath and frequent cleaning is about the only way.
Is there an additive that we trust?
it took 3 times to stop the drip on one of mine. The plate must be flat and straight.
Just examine closely......most likely it needs a new gasket......
It sure looked like it was seeping out of the block itself but could have just welled up in that spot.
Think I'll give it a good clean and lay a shop towel on it and see where it shows up. Also the truck was jacked in front so that along with your suggestion might be it.
Much rather it be an adapter than a crack.
Fingers crossed.
