2011 Ford 250 DPF problems

Hey , the forum has helped me before , now I having issue with my dpf. About four weeks ago , I got a code , but it cleared on the dash before I could read it. I went the next day to firestone , they said it appear to be an issue with def level . So I filled it and went on my way. That Sunday (three days later) a red safety issue flashed on the dash and tach started to go down - I thought , I had done something inadvertently so I put in neutral , turned the key off , and attempted to turn it back on . Well imagine my surprise when I am steering a 6500 lb truck down a two lane road that's has no power steering or breaks . Not good.
The mechanic said no big deal,it was a sensor he could replace it , but if I had an issue again , I should find a certified Ford dude. No problem , and I'm on my way. One week later , again an engine light , so I called him back and recommended a mechanic in town. At this time I am considering my ford dealership , but the last visit there involved Ford corporate , because they had stuck some jumper wires in my AC and burned up the whole compressor, so I don't want to drive an hour away to a good dealership, for something simple so I take to a local diesel guy . He looks at it says no problem , just needs an update to the software. No problem I'm on my way.
Then Sunday (again) , I get a check engine light . I get a bit "upset" and just gunned it. My friend had said to do that , and "low and behold " engine light goes away. Back to the mechanic . I just got off the phone with him and he said " it was the EGR lite " and " look Doc you have got drive it like you stole it. You need to blow it out " . Then my friend tells me he does't have that problem cause he removed that "stuff".
Look I don't want to a VW polluter , but I can't have a truck that breaks weekly. Besides that I live in a small town I'm not going to "drive like I stole it". Has anyone heard of such a thing ?

Hi Bfirm,

Have you received any lights or warnings since the most recent one went away? Either way, it might be time to get your local Ford Dealership involved. How many miles are on your truck?

2011 F250 dpf problems

I don't know if I omitted the detail , that when the truck shut down ,I was told that it was a sensor that was associated with the dpf. I was warned, by another truck owner , that the same thing happened to him . I thank you for the assistance , but I think my decision is made. You see if this would have happened to my wife , we wouldn't be having this conversation . She did however bring up a viable point , what if this happens when my son is towing? He has borrowed this truck on numerous occasions and most have included towing an 8000 lb boat.
Please don't misunderstand me , I have been towing boats with pickup trucks since 1979. In fact I got my license to tow the boat ( a common occurrence in southern Louisiana ) and I have never had a truck that towed so well. However I have to make a decision based on the safety of my family . Ford and other diesel truck manufactures should consider changing that "shut down the truck" design , because if someone does have an incident like mine and is towing at 75mph like my son was doing this summer , the results could be catastrophic . I'm not sure if anyone considered that when they designed the software , but perhaps it should be looked in to.
Thanks again for your help.
