Ford will dribble out features like these over time, as they have done in the past. For the 17, I believe Ford thinks the first overhaul in 18 years is enough.
The article missed the 'Google self driving' feature. Should have been 8 things.
Yes, I get it that some prefer rowing gears in a truck... it's a personal preference but let's see, add a second transmission to drive up costs? Aren't these trucks already priced in outrageous territory?
I know my comments will not be favorable with some... but give me manual trans in a sporty car any day... not for my truck.
There are 3 things I wish my '15 had 2 of which are on that list!
It would be nice if there was a power supply in the bed and the lighting in the bed should have already been in these trucks! I do also wish they had the remote locking tail gate.....its just dumb to not have it on a 2015 model.....My uncles '08 Avalanche has it!
Lastly I would like the "Any speed" locker....can we change this in our current truck? whats involved?
Can we bring back a 'base' model with just basic creature comforts - a/c, power windows + locks for crew cabs? Heck, many of the trucks I see on here have lots of stuff replaced anyway.
How did we survive without all these options just 10-15 years ago?
Pretty soon everybody will be demanding the bed option because the cost will be close to that of a house.

When I was talking to the Ram dealer he said to order a manual now because it's going away just like Ford did. This was when we were looking at a F550 or 5500

That writing has been on the wall for years. Since "if" you want a manual from Ram it has no hp or torque. Compared to its automatic counter parts. Not to mention the stock clutch won't handle stock hp let alone more power.
I am actually amazed they kept running for as long as they have.
Trailer backup assist: if you need it you are a rookie, maybe you should drive a Ram. Power in the bed would be nice, especially if it already has the trailer wiring in the bed. Storage box in the bed, didn't they do that in the early 70s? I'll pass, I think it looks ridiculous on the Ram. Air springs, I'm on the fence. I had them on my 250 and they were great. I haven't seen any need on my duallys. De-tuned 6.7L? How about just by a gasser if you don't need the power. Manual transmission: if I was still driving my Mustang that would be great. I don't need to change gears while I'm in traffic pulling my 5th wheel. Just my opinions after driving a Super Duty for the last 16 years.
Trailer backup assist will be available in a modified version, probably on the upgraded models.
Power in the bed would be great, but.... not a deal breaker for me.
Storage box? What about trying to open it with a "over the rail tonneau or a camper or shell? There's a lot of "lost space" in the bed with the storage boxes not to mention significantly reduced clearance when turning with a fifth wheel pinbox coming close to the bed rails.
De-tuned 6.7L?? Isn't that almost heresy???
Manual transmission? The older I get the lazier I get, so probably no on that too.
For me, one significant plus will be the ability to integrate a trailer rear view camera into the "onboard camera monitor".... But that's not enough to get me to trade my 2015 for the new model. I'm happy with what Ford did last year, no need to push the envelope (or the marriage) LOL
I can do without the manual transmission and derated engine. As for all the other missing stuff, it's nothing the aftermarket can't support. And probably get better quality gear aftermarket also.
I think having multiple on the fly tunes from factory would be awesome. I mean common, do we really need 1000 lb-ft of torque? If de-tuning my 6.7 provided me with better fuel economy and a more reliable engine, I would be all over that. Take a look at the new F650s and F750s, same 6.7 but tuned for 270 HP and 675 lb.-ft, I have to assume that puts less stress on the engine.
