AC Compressor Clutch Problem
A friend's car is squeeling like crazy from the AC Clutch when you plug in the connector on the compressor. You can clearly see that the clutch is having trouble engaging and appears to be turning very slowly inward of the pulley. A mechanic friend of her's told her that the clutch needed to be "shimmed?" I am not familiar with that procedure, but she said the clutch was put on last year. Sounds like the clutch is going bad to me. Any ideas?

It could be that the compressor is locking up. Take it to a real technician and get an AC diag. My Ford Dealership will do it for 35.00. To SHIM the clutch would make it not engage at all if the gap was wide enough. If anything it would need a smaller shim to reduce the gap, but more than likely the compressor itself is locking up from reed valve siezure.
