Flex Fuel Rangers......

Flex Fuel Rangers......
Recently we got a new Racetrac station here in town that has E85 which is easy for me to get.....
I have owned my '03 Edge with the Flex Fuel 3.0 for just 1 year now, and this is the first time I have put the E85 fuel in it.
The first tank seemed no different in the seat of the pants mileage.
The second tank seems to be going quicker than the first
I will be hand calculating the mileage here soon.
I was getting 16-17mpg on regular unleaded gas
The E85 is .20 LESS than regular unleaded and the pump is marked "Minimum 51% Ethanol" ........
I'm thinking that using the E85 at the reduced cost is a wash as far as the mileage is concerned, its just that (like using 99.9% Bio-Diesel in my 7.3 truck) I am using more man made fuel and less conventional fuels....
Thoughts? Comments??

The whole premise of using arable lands to grow crops to feed cars is preposterous so I will not support it, and on top of that these fuels contain less energy therefore requiring more of it to function in an engine thus producing lower fuel milage and they drastically shorten the life of your fuel system components so I simply don't see the point. This is simply a way for the oil industry can green wash their product and make people feel better about driving a car, what people really should be doing is making smarter choices about the type and size of vehicle they drive and how they drive it, or in other words do our part to manage our carbon footprint.
