Lowering questions.

After installing drop hangers and shackles (will never do that again with the bed on!)on my '96, I was supposed to get an advertised 4" of drop on the rear. As you can see in the pics, that's not 4" of drop, more like 2-ish from what I've measured.

Yes, I did mount the springs in the highest setting on both hanger and shackle.

The rear of the truck still almost looks stock height to me!

For the amount of money spent on hangers and shackles and the pain it was to install them (again, removing rivets with the bed on and everything else in place is not fun) the end result is very disappointing!

Question is, for anyone who has done this mod was this the same result you got?

Also have some questions regarding lowering the front.

I have been looking for some Gen. 1 lightning springs with no luck, does anyone have a Moog part number for them? Not sure if they're even being produced anymore?

I'm guessing the CC818 is what I have now?

I could still find 2" aftermarket drop spings, if I went that route, what camber bushings should I use?

Also, for anyone that has done a spring drop up front, what setting did you use on the bushings?

Would like to get as close as possible before having it aligned.

I know that's quite a few questions, any help is appreciated!

I use 5 degree Moog camber caster bushings with 2" drop springs and 3" drop beams.. They are duel adjustable.

I would just go with the 2" or 3" drop springs.

5 degrees huh? Didn't think they made them that high. Where did you get them?

You happen to know what degree your truck was set at after the drop?

And yes it seems the 2" springs are the best option for me.

Lowering questions.

I have drop shackles and no overload spring on my truck and it looks about the same height as yours maybe even a bit lower.

Do you have drop hangers as well?

I do have overload springs on still, however, I thought the overload springs don't have an affect on ride height when the truck is empty?

I do not have drop hangers, they are stock. They do have an affect on ride height however you only get as much drop as the thickness of the spring, so maybe 1/2". You could always remove more leaves for more drop but then you run into axle wrap and wheel hop problems as well as decreased payload hauling ability

Yeah I would never remove leafs on a truck, defeats it's purpose IMO.

Do you have any pics of your truck already posted elsewhere on the forum?

When you said overload spring, for some reason I thought you were referring to the spring on top of the spring pack, guess that's more of a "helper" spring.

Lowering questions.

I do have pics but I don't think I have any after the overload spring was removed. By overload spring I was referring to the bottom spring in the pack. Its a lot of work to remove it for only a 1/2" or so drop though IMO. After drop hangers my truck will sit just how I want it in the rear and I'll probably go with 2" drop coils in the front as well.

BTW boots and slicks that's a clean looking truck, nice

Do you have a product name/model#/links?

How long/how many miles since the work?

Thanks.

Can't see your avatar real well, but looks like we have a common interest:

Makes sense, and I agree it's not worth the effort for just a 1/2" drop.

Also appreciate the compliment!

I actually haven't drove it much since I installed them, maybe about 200 miles at the most..

Was there a particular reason you wanted to know or were you just curious?

And yes we do.

Wish I had a better pic,the notch is actually my ol lady's car, I take care of it for her though.

Pretty clean lookin pair you got there your self, I like the red interior in the hatch.

I would guess that you should probably get the rest of the advertised drop as time goes on & the suspension settles, but it might be at max drop. I've been looking to see what amounts of drop were available without going to drop beams or axle flips.

I've had the 92 GT since 95 (ORIGSIN), the 94 since 06 (SCNDSIN).

And it worked out that both are porno red inside, although a bit faded by now. Thanks for the complement.
