Question Has anyone tried this?

Found a very clean steering wheel from a '65 Galaxie and would like to install it on my 84 with plans on changing the wheel center to a logo of somesort. I like the look and feel of the 60's steering wheels with the horn ring.
I get the wiring issues as my truck has cruise and i'm looking into backing out the switch(s)/ and wiring out of the column and relocating all of that to the dash pocket at the lower right with a custom built panel. My question concerns the shaft splines. I'm thinking it's a matter of shaft OD and spline count respectively to the galaxie wheel's OD and spline count. I am currently researching both steering shafts but as you might have guessed....not much info available. Just wondering how many have done a wheel conversion and your experiences. Maybe NumberDummy could chime in? All thats left now is the factory in-dash AM/FM 8 Track Tape Deck Radio !

Much thanks.....Don

If the splines don't match I think you are pretty much done for unless you can get a aftermarket spline piece and adapt it to the older steering wheel. Not sure what the specs/spline count/diameter is if that's what you are asking.

That's a 1964 dash, not a 1965 lol.

The wheel does look sharp though.

You made a typo saying it was a '65 in the first picture with the wheel. I wasn't sure if you just made a typo or thought it was a '65. That wheel looks much better than the one in our '64. Ours is cracked at the joints of the spokes.

Optional 3 spoke "Sport" steering wheel: 1980/83 F100/350 & Bronco.

I want to add cruise to my truck but I don't know where/how is go about it.
With this type of steering wheel (introduced in 1978 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline), the only type of Speed Control available was dealer installed.

The 9C888 switch & button assy (see upper pic) attaches to the T/S handle.

1963/64 Galaxies use the same dash, horn ring and steering wheel, the 500 XL horn ring is unique. This steering wheel will not work on your truck.

It was just a typo ....I've had both a 64 sedan and a 65 sedan, as well as a 63 vert. Most are cracked where you describe.

Hmmm....optional sport wheel. Now there's an idea.

Being as how the truck is still in S.C.....I'm waiting for kristol8178 to confirm which components of the speed control system still exist, if any. If most or all no longer exist, I am going to go sans speed control and replace the wheel. I just thought it would be slick to use a 60's wheel but i guess i will have to look to alternatives. We have hopes that the truck is going to make it's way to N.E.Ohio in early October. I can't wait as this long distance stuff is wearing on my nerves.

^ Factory installed Speed Control. ^

I found a partial NOS dealer installed Speed Control kit, but two other dealer installed items are required, depends on the engine size. Adapter kit & Reservoir Kit.

There she be !

Mine had a different horn button.....it was the Rallye Wagon.
I'm also considering a aftermarket banjo style wheel.
