Truck is stock 2006 F350 4X4 SRW 275/65-20 tires. Wondering what others are using for drop hitches. I have a 6X10 tandem axle dump trailer. I currently have a 5" drop and it is still a little high. Looks like I need about a 7" drop.
I recently installed a Class V receiver hitch from a 2015 F350 so I will need to get a 2-1/2" ball mount. I though I would see how much drop others are using before I order.
I do know there are adjustable mounts and I have one for 2" receiver. I want a fixed drop for the higher capacity and cheaper price.
With the trailer disconnected, put the hitch at the height you want it to be when it is attached to the truck, then measure how high up the bottom of the trailer hitch is from the ground.
Then, with the trailer connected [and maybe with a middling load], measure how high the top of the receiver hitch on the truck is.
The difference between those measurements should be how much drop you want.
You need more than 20k lb capacity drawbar and ball? There are adjusting drop hitches for 20k lbs.
The highest I have seen is 12,000, which is enough, just would like a little more excess. Unless you are talking about the bolt on style, I have seen one of those and it was only 5" drop.
