Me and my dad have always wanted to redo a car together. Hes been restoring cars since he was a teenager however i never have. We went out to his buddys house and he had a 79 f150 custom stepside sitting outback just sitting there. i asked him what he was doing with it and he said 1,000 and its yours. well now I own it and want to restore it. I dont know exactly what i want to do with it though. It has a 390 in it, runs and drive. most of it is cosmetic and needs reupholstered. Im a believer in keeping things original and clean looking. I dont want to do anything too extravagant. Any suggestions and ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Congratulations! And great advice above... get it safe and reliable (and fun!) to drive first. Getting the fuel system clean is a key to making these reliable.
If you can post some pics that would be great.
The 390 is a great PU engine. It wouldn't be original to the truck since the 360/390 series was replaced by the 351m/400 series sometime in 1977. If your buddy has some history on the engine and other major parts it would help with service.
I run a '78 F250 mostly stock and love it. Here is a pic of it coming home from a day of hard work.
