Hello all! I currently own a 2006 F-250 Lariat 5.4. I'm looking at trading it in on a 2011 F-250 Lariat 6.7 Power Stroke. I pull a 28' travel trailer and the 5.4 is really workin! Any thoughts or comments would be nice from you guys as you know more than I. Good year, bad year? My buddies son is going to school for Diesel Tech. He says its a good motor and he's a Duramax guy!
they are good engines.
a few things to look at are if the updates were done. there was one that had something to do with exhaust pipe brackets in the engine bay cracking letting the pipes separate and put super hot exhaust gases into the engine bay burning things up.
another thing about the 2011 early production 2012 engines was they use a plastic oil pan. all others had steel pans.
this is not a big deal to most people, and is a blessing if you live in an area where the roads are salted 4-5 months of the year.
Beware that some if not all of the 6.7's have ceramic bearings in the turbocharger. If they fail they can cause major damage. They may have an upgrade for it by now, because I learned that when they first came out. Might be worth checking into.
