Swapping 5.0L engine for newer engine

I have a 1992 F150 that I have removed the 5.0L engine from and I would like to install in it, a 5.0L from a similar donor truck that happens to be a 1995 model. Same E40D transmission in both trucks.

Can I use the newer wiring harness? The harness in the 1992 truck is damaged. If I use the 1995 harness, do I need to use the 1995 ECM?
Are there any issues with using the newer distributor?
Is the flex plate the same?
Any other issues I didn't think of? Firing order?

Thanks,
Alton

Yes, you will have to use the 95 harness and ecm, the 95 is MAF vs the 92's speed density.

Thanks for the information. That is what I figured, but I thought it best to confirm.

I'm going to say if you want the simplest swap use the existing 1992 wiring (how damaged is it?) and PCM already in the truck. You will most likely have to swap the lower intake from the 1992 engine to the 1995 donor because the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor was moved from the lower intake to the airbox around 1994.

If your existing harness is that bad then you can convert to MAF since you have the parts to do it. Anytime you start swapping harnesses between model years you will run into minor wiring differences. Adding in the Speed Density to MAF and Push-Start versus CCD style ignitions you will find it's not a plug-n-play.

No you can't easily use the '95 wiring harness.. it won't just plug in. On top of the fact that the '95 should be sequential MAF which means there are a bunch of extra wiring in the harness that your truck doesn't have, the bulkhead connectors are also different, and the ignition module is different and located on the fender instead of on the distributor. So you are looking at a complete under hood rewire to use the newer harness, if you got a complete donor truck it's certainly doable but it's a fair bit of work... more than a weekend swap for sure.

1992 model year has the remote mounted ICM...

Yes it is push-start ignition versus the CCD ignition on the 1995 models. Either way it's still remote mount and there are wiring differences.
