I went the "Parts not available" route, on my truck in Mx. I installed a heavy duty toggle switch, under the dash, and when I want back up, reverse, or bed lights, it powers the stock backup lights, and 2 spot/flood lights mounted on the winch gantry for extra light. They are sealed beam, rubber mounted, and can be found at any truck stop accessory store. Simple, direct, and an inline fuse provides protection.

That was my thought as well.

You could fabricated a bracket and mount a Micro Switch to it, that would turn on the backup lights, when the manual transmission reverse lever makes contact with the lever arm on the Micro Switch.

I had done this years ago when I swapped out the C-4 in my '68 Mustang for a Top-Loader 4-spd.

There are two sets of contacts on the Micro Switch. One normally open, one normally closed and a common between them. You would run one wire to the common and one to the normally open contact.

Activation of the backup lights would be automatic when moving the shifter into reverse, without you having to manually flip a toggle to turn the lights on and then flip it again to turn them off.

I am a bit slow on the uptake, but after taking some time to actually picture it in my mind.. (I think in pictures), I am not sure where I could mount it on a NP 435 4 speed tranny. The tower actually sticks up through the hole in the floor plate, and has a rubber accordion boot. I am picturing it in my mind, and so far cannot figure how & where to mount the micro switch, so that the shift stick, would contact it. I would like to have the back up lights, and the rear floods controlled separately. It is a bit difficult for me, to be in Texas, and try to solve problems on my truck in Baja..
Thanks again for the idea though, but I will have to wait until Nov. to try it out..

Beginning in 1967, all F100/350's, Bronco's and Econolines have back-up lamps.

Stylesides (1967/72), Bronco's (1967/77) and Econolines (1967/74 - except 1967 pickups) have the back-up lenses incorporated within the tail lamp lenses.

Pic says 1969/72, but should say 1967/72. 15520 is the switch.

Ah yeah, I forgot about the NP435 having the shift mechanism INSIDE the shift turret. --Top-Loader 4-spd. shift lever rods are external to the transmission. --I also tend to think in terms of F100 and 2WD, since that's what I have and is relevant to me.

If the NP435 already has a spot on it for a backup light switch, that would be the easiest route to go.

Ok...so I'm in
1967 F-250
Automatic trans (C-6)

The reverse lights WERE working but have just stopped working for no apparent reason.
I thought the switch for the reverse lights was on the column. I didn't know there was any relations to the trans. A switch on the trans?

Thoughts?

On a '77-earlier truck with an automatic, the backup light switch contacts are on the NSS, located on the lower end of the steering column, inside the truck.

Thanks ND and Ultra... I knew that the tranny had the switch on it, but I was under the hood with the new wiring, while my amigo was under the truck. He may have hooked the back up lights to that switch, while I was hooding the floods to the toggle..?? I will check and fix it when I get home.. It will be most convenient, to have the backups working with the tranny switch, and the floods on the toggle. I CAN have my cake two ways.

I need to start a log book for my truck, with a column for the year model, of each part I have used. Relying on my old memory any more, is getting iffy. Then, the only IF will be IF I remembered to enter it in the log..

Reverse lights staying on .
i have a 2004 Ford f 350 crew cab dually 4x4 . As soon as I reconnect the batteries my reverse lights come and stay on ? Not running and without the key in the ignition . It has the tow package . It's an automatic . Is it the neutral safety switch ? Or is it something else ? Where is the neutral safety switch located ? My email address is jakehd2008@yahoo.com please let me know if you have any ideas ? Thank you !

I'd like to suggest that you're posting this in the wrong place... and resurrecting a 3-year-old thread isn't usually a good idea (it's generally better to start a new thread).
