Hard Hit

I'm currently on a work trip to Prudhoe Bay, AK at the top of Alaska. I was headed over to another camp today and passed this F-150. It was driven by one of the villagers and I don't have the full story but it was traveling at 45-50 mph and hit something pretty dang hard. It goes to show how safe these trucks are if you ask me.

Good Lord that truck got tore up. But I do have to admit I was thankful to see that it wasn't your Limited Russ. After all that's what I was expecting to see given you thread title. I read that and instantly I got really bummed out for you. Glad to see that wasn't the case. Did you ever find out what the truck hit?

Haha, yeah i sorta made the title that way to do a little bit of a fake out...my bad!

You will be happy to know my F-150 is in the fenced yard at my work awaiting my return.

I don't know what it hit, at first i thought it hit a truck head on, but the damage looks very localized to a very narrow area on the left front. Could have rear ended a truck or could have hit a pole holding up the pipelines that run right next to the road...not 100% sure.

I was thinking maybe it hit a moose at first. But who knows? I have no experience with moose hits.

Nope, moose hit would take out the whole front end plus more. There are no moose up here as far as i know. lots of caribou and polar bears though. This was either another truck or one of the solid objects off the sides of the road but not sure exactly what it was. There are large trucks up here that could have driven away from this with nothing more then a scratch and total the F-150.

Over application of stickers obviously caused the driver to lose control of the truck

I too was scared for you Russ!

I am glad to see that the air canopy did it's job. That makes me feel better about my truck.

So, I got the story today! They did go off the road and hit the pipeline next to the road. They only had minor injuries including cuts and bruises but otherwise walked away. Two occupants in the truck at the time of the crash.

I'm proud of the amount of half ton truck's i'm seeing up here. Ton's of F-150's all around! It was only a few years ago that they did not being anything smaller then a F-250 to work up here.

few photos of working F-150s

Well that certainly is good news that those guys only had minor injuries. That truck truly did do it's job. Keeping the passengers safe in what could have been a tragic event.

The amount of force the truck has to absorb as well as protect on the interior to keep the occupants of the truck safe is really incredible on newer vehicles!
You don't really consider exactly what a sudden and stop is until you've experienced it, pushing silage with a tractor recently and caught the transition from gravel to cement with the blade at only 6-7mph and no give on anything I thought I was going to break a rib when I hit the steering wheel!

So true! after my head on crash back in 2010 i have a respect for the forces your body go through during a crash. This truck hit a VERY solid large pipe that had no give what so ever. The truck had to do all the giving in this case and it did it well.
