Burning oil

Quick question and I will try to be as detailed as possible.

My truck has 280,000 miles on her and she runs like the day I bought her. I change the oil every 5K with Rotella Triple protection, and in between changes she would burn maybe a quart of oil. Over the past two changes however I've noticed that she is now burning 1.5-3. I've put 130K miles on her since bought and never changed the injectors or O Rings. So maybe I'm biased in thinking that is my problem. But before I spend the roughly $4K on 1.5s being installed, I was hoping to get some opinions on if you have run into this. Also, I do have the TS 6pos chip and usually tow at the 25HP setting unknown if that's related. And I do want to reiterate that I haven't noticed a thing when it comes the any power changes or rough idling.

Thank you for any input.

I can't speak from first hand experience, but I seem to recall others having issues with their trucks using Rotella. I think changing brands seemed to help. Hopefully someone with first hand knowledge will chime in soon.

May I ask why 4k ? If you go to rosewood its way cheaper, and if you don't mind getting your hands dirty DIY.
will guide you thru the install process.

Given that there is almost 4 gallons of oil in there ,I don't think I would be too concerned . O rings are not a big job ,& not terribly expensive if you are concerned . My oil consumption has been all over the place since I have had my truck . One time it was a gallon low Most of the time between 1/2 - 2 qts . Never the same ...

Much appreciated everyone. The 4K was a rough estimate the powerstroke shop quoted me. They did all the work on my fathers 6.0 so I figured I would go to them first. And I've done some research on how to replace the injectors. My main concern is hydro locking the motor. If you have a strategy on that it would be very useful to me.

My philosophy has always been that I would drive it till something catastrophic happens, or I get one kid to many for the back seat. But I never plan on selling it so just wanted to make sure this wasn't leading to something bigger.
Thanks again

Before removing injectors just drain the oil rails, less chance of too much oil going into tje cylinders, and if that happens you can always remove the glow plugs and crank the engine till all the oil gets pushed out just make sure you put some rags does tend to make a mess.

I'm with Rick on the oil consumption. For me, it depends more on how much towing I'm doing. 1 to 3 quarts over a 5K mile interval wouldn't concern me at all. If it's leaking through the injector o-rings, it's either going up or down. Leaking through the top, only a slight leak, the oil is just getting recycled and you're not losing any. If it leaks a bunch through the top, still no problem with losing any but you'll be having other problems. Leaking through the bottom, it will be mixing with fuel and you should be able to tell the difference in power and smoke.

It's easy to avoid to the hydro locking, and if you end up working on injectors you should start a new thread in which that can discussed directly.
