The Code P0113 Mystery

The Code P0113 Mystery
Over the past week or so my truck has been running pretty poorly. I decided to tackle some of the smaller issues with it myself. One of the issues was a code read of P0113 and that's an AIT (air intake temp) error code. I replaced the AIT sensor and took it to my mechanic to have the computer reset and right after he did the light came on again. He plugged the reader back in and it gave him another code of P0113.
He's got a fancy Matco computer that he plugs in and it basically gives him the whole life story of my truck if he wanted it to. He searched around and saw that the truck's computer was giving him a temp of -40 degrees Celsius.
We can't figure out what is going on. The sensor is good as I've replaced them a few times wondering if I had gotten a few bad ones. One of the major symptoms up to this point is that the engine shakes pretty badly and acts like it wants to stall but never does. This clears up after less than a minute of sitting idle.
I love my truck and I will not let this beat me! I reach out to you guys for help and I'm hoping this is a good resource for answers and ideas.
No other codes are showing on his computer.

A reading of -40 means the sensor circuit is open. That does not necesarily mean the sensor is bad. You can unplug the sensor on a properly operating truck and get the same reading and fault code.
Bad connector, open wire, faulty PCM, etc are all possibilities. Someone needs to check all that out.
