Exclamation Code 64

Ok so I was going to pick my girlfriends sister from work and my truck died on the side of the road. My neighbor towed me home and I did a diagnostic and it gave me code 64 which is ACT sensor grounded or input reads 254*F. I know it isn't the temp. because it was like 20* out and the truck was still cold when it died. Do these sensors kill the engine when they go out? and when they go out do they ground out?????

If that's the only code you got then it's pretty simple, change the sensor. The computer has no way of knowing if it's getting bad info or of the motor is overheating badly, so it will take whatever action it has been programmed to do, which could be limp mode or completely shutting down. Best to start with the obvious repair and see what that gives you.

It also helps if you post some info about your truck--year, model, engine, tranny, etc.

Thanks for all the help, found out more about it in a different forum and from three different mechanics. Replaced the part and everything is working great now, actually better then before it started acting up.

I can't find the signature thing in the edit profile page to put my truck info in it.
