worked on a 6.7 for the first time today....
While getting parts together to do an air intake mod on my buddies E450 7.3 ambulance, "see build thread thread under the 7.3 Section", we stopped off at O'Reillys to pick up a couple of Cone air filters and section of heater hose for the doghouse mod.
I noticed an F250 6.7 with the hood up outiside. We walked inside to get our parts and upon telling the clerks what we needed the air filters for and what we were working on they asked me, Do you know anything about diesels??? I said ya I know a bit why do you ask.
They pointed to a fella standing there with a broken piece of something in his hand, he looked at me with kinda a blank stare and said, my truck made a pop sound and I lost all power, this thing blew out and I need to get back to chicago tonight. They had all kinds of clamps and fittings trying to rig something up.
I said lets go take a look at this thing so I know what were dealing with.
Walked out and found that it was the fitting for his intercooler tube that had blown out. it was this one here.
You can see in this picture where it was blown out, Since it was already screwed I had him use a hacksaw to cut it off flush where it is fairly rigid/hard.
And as luck may have it, for him that is. We had just left my buddys HVAC shop and grabbed an assortment of fittings and such as we didnt quite know how we were going to install big air filters onto his E450. We had a 3" Rubber PVC coupler that worked perfectly for this parking lot repair. Slid it over the cut off piece of the boot, and then over the metal turbo inlet and tightened everything down. As I told him, Im unsure how well this coupling will handle the heat, but hopefully it will be enough to get him 4 hours up the road to chicago.
Guy asked me what I owed him and I told him not to worry about it, just have a safe trip, so after my good deed for the day, it was back to my buddys house to finish installing his airfilter mod on his E450. Always happy to help out a Diesel driver.
