My 95' Bronco has a issuse with starting. When it is warm out side sometimes when i go to start it, i turn the key and nothing happens, the fuel pump relay kicks in and every thing else works like normal, but if i smack the steering wheel or fuse panel a couple times, it will start with no trouble. I only ask because recently it has been worse, and it has taken my 5 min of beating the crap out of the wheel to get it to start. The only thing i could think of was the ignition switch under tha dash, but i dont want to go just replacing random parts. any ideas? thanks
I'd say replacing parts is better than beating on the steering column.
Put a test light on the R/LB wire on the starter relay and see if it gets 12V every time you turn the key to START. If it does, replace the starter relay. If it doesn't, replace the ignition switch. You can see where it is in the GP Pics album in my signature link.
it could be the neutral safety switch, if its an automatic the shifter may not be fully in park or the switch on the column could be out of adjustment. try moving the shift lever around a little bit as you turn the key, my bronco has that problem. your beating on the steering wheel may be moving the shifter which will engage the switch and make it start.
I dont think its the shifter on the column, because some times i just hit the fuse panel lightly and it will work, i just resort to more extreme measures when i get mad. Thanks Steve i will check the relay
