My 1995 F150 XL RWD with a 4.9L I6 decided to quit on me last Thursday. I pulled into our local YMCA and heard what sounded like metal dragging on the ground. Long story short, I checked my rear differential saw it was leaking drove to NAPA (150 yds away) barely made it; they told me my rear end was shot; started to drive to my mechanic's (1 mile away) and it briefly locked up 6-7 times; got about 300yds down the road and parked it in an elementary school parking lot. Tow guy showed up and you know it's bad when the tow guy calls his buddy and says it's locked up bad. It was towed to my mechanics and now I have to replace the whole rear axle. What year range should I be looking at for a replacement? The range I've been looking at so far is 92-96, will any rear axles a couple model years newer fit? Will any models outside the usual Bronco/Ranger fit?
I think F150 or Bronco is correct. Just be sure it's new enough to have the tone ring for speedo. Since urs is RWD and not 4wd does t even need to be same ratio
those 8.8s aren't worth anything here, tried for $75 on 3.55 from a 1995 and was offered $40 . I left it in the truck when it went for scrap. have probably put 15 or more on the scrap pile in the last 5 yrs. 97 and ups seem to be crap for some reason and they are sellable.
