tires
I have just ordered (from Rickson Truck) a set of 6 rims (dually) in 19.5 X 6 size. The 19.5 inch tires are the same size used on the F-550. If you stick with the narrower 225 width (same as stock on my F-350) the tire diameter is the same, but you have 2 inches less of flexible side wall. The weight ratings on these load range F and G tires is such that if I have a flat in the front, I can safely remove one of the rear duals, use it as a spare on front and continue on down the road, even with my 4200 pound camper in the back. Tire life should be in the 200,000 mile range, although load, maintenance schedule and driving style will have a lot to do with that. And once you do wear out the tread, these tires can be safely retreaded at least 3 times for around $75 each. It was about $2600 for the rims and Yokohama mud and snow rated radials, but it should be the last set of tires I'll ever need.
