Ok, I'm starting to get stumped with our work truck. It's a 87 F150 4x4 302 auto 200,000+mi. I've given her a complete tune up, plugs-wires-cap-rotor-fuel filter-air filter-and dist module.
It runs great, just doesn't want to start up. Their isn't a problem with the cranking, it spins over nicely. It just won't fire. Usually it takes 3 turns of the key to get it to run. Sometimes it'll start to fire and quit, hit the key again and it takes off without a problem. Any ideas on what to check??? Thanks!
I suspect the fuel pump. Put a pressure gauge on the schrader valve on the fuel rail. You need ~40psi - my truck got hard to start and I found I only had ~10psi sometimes. You can see how to change it in the EFI Fuel Pump album in my signature link.
