All Yakima. I've always had Yakima racks and never had a problem, we'll see how these hold up. A little rough getting the boats up there but that's what the gym is for...right?
How about a rack that would mount them above the bed?
I have a tonneau cover that clamps to the bed rails and 99% of racks clamp around the bed rails, believe me I looked and I would rather have the cover. As for the straps rubbing the paint... not worried about it. There's a thick, soft rubber sleeve that goes around it where it contacts the vehicle, not to mention I'm not really concerned about a little bit of scuffing, to me it's a truck, not a show car...
I used to buy Yakima, but their fit on my Focus is awful, just absolutely plain awful. Scratched up the door jambs, AND the who rack can shift backwards over time. Sucks because they worked great on my '02 Ranger and '07 F250, and the round bars make fitting other things like lights easier. I have two bike carriers and a faring on the car now, I won't put anything with more surface area than that for fear the rack will fail.
The buy-in cost for Thule is pretty steep, but I'm done buying q-clips from Yakima, next car I'll just pay up for the whole new system. Thule towers are better than Yakima for how they pull on the clips in the door frames.
For the rear I used 1" heater hose, with a slot cut through both sides. I then ran a strap through it and close in under my hard bed cover. Works great!
This is what I've done for the forward mounts. For the rear I used 1" heater hose, with a slot cut through both sides. I then ran a strap through it and close in under my hard bed cover. Works great!
Good hack! I'll look into doing the front like that.
I tried the Yakima roof racks on on my truck and only lasted about 5 miles. The way they clamp above the doors create too much wind noise for me.
The driving I have done so far has not shown any appreciable noise increase, then again acceptable noise is subjective. Personally I expect a good amount of noise while driving a 9200 LB brick down the road...

They are all expensive to me. I have a Yakima bike rack and ski/snowboard rack in the garage left over from my Subaru, it would have been foolish of me to change systems at this point. I've had both and I haven't noticed any real differences that make one better than the other yet.
