So a while back I bought a 1983 F250. The more I dig, the more I find has been modified. It is legal and registered, but holy crud is it a piece together. The cab, and I assume the rest of the body is an '83 f150 XLT. The engine is cast as D1VE 6015 A2B, the heads are cast D3vE A2A, so I'm guessing 460 instead of 429. It 3/4 ton axles with the free floating front end and 9/16 lugs on the hubs. The frame stamp is EPO7522. Any idea what frame this might be?
What do you mean by "free floating frontend"? The two major catagories of 4x4 frontends are the ttb and the solid axle. The ttb is a two piece axle that pivots in the middle, the solid axle is usually a dana 60 and is a one piece.
If the suspension looks factory, then you have either a f250 or 350 frame with a f150 cab sitting on it. Not too unusual since it will all bolt up the same regardless. The only problem you have, the GVW on the title probably reflects f150 specs, not f250 or 350 specs. Not a big deal most of the time, unless you are in a accident and a lawyer wants to claim you were overloaded.
Sorry, free floating is what my dad called the non solid axle front ends. Its a Dana 44 according to the tag. The rear end is a Dana 60 again, a tag id. It's a C6 transmission with a BW1345 transfer case, and a 460 with a Holley 4180.I've id'd all but the frame.
You have a 250 frame.
I don't know why you care but if the frame is not too rusted *that* truck's VIN is stamped on the top frame rail under the passenger
They changed from a solenoid with an 'I' terminal to one without when they incorporated the hot in crank function into the harness.
The older one will work in a newer vehicle but not the other way around.
Hot fuel 460 trucks use the I terminal to power the fuel pump in crank.
The number on the frame, if you do find it, is NOT a complete VIN.
You can be confident you have an 80+ chassis, not going to find a TTB in a 79 down.
You may have a factory 460 chassis with an early engine, or you may have a swap. How is your oil filter mounted, and how many studs do your engine mounts have sticking through the frame stands?
If it is a 2-350, I'd get the title changed to reflect that. What state are you in? The complete vin SHOULD be stamped somewhere on the frame. Now where, I don't know.

The vin in the windshield everyone can see would be wrong. Usually the only thing you can do is bring in the vin's from both or several donors and proof of ownership of all, they will generate a new vin. What a mess that can be.
