78 F-150 project

Hello all, I have been reading these forums for quite awhile now and am ready to put the info to good use.

Picked up a 78 F-150 2wd with a 351M and C6 transmission for $750.
I've gone through some of it, new plugs and wires. Changed the oil and tranny fluid and filter. I also rebuilt the 2150 carb. Currently working on getting all lighting working correctly. I'll post pics soon and I'm sure I'll have questions soon. Anything else anyone recommends as far as a tune up/preventative maint I should be looking at doing before she becomes my work/hunting truck? Glad to be a part of the group.

There is the 351M. Did not want to run at all until I rebuilt the carb and figured out where the vacuum lines should have been.

Interior is in amazing shape. Door panels and head liner are like new. Carpets rough but for Iowa I am just happy there is a solid floor underneath it!

Trying to upload from a phone. Body is solid outside of a little rust on the quarters. All of the glass is also solid.

Welcome to the club. What part of Ia are you in? I'm just north of Ottumwa. Check and top off if not change the diff fluid, check brake pads/shoes wear, be prepared for possible brake line rupture (thats my current project on my 79scab). But keep us posted and we all love to see pics of everyones trucks.

I am in the Ames area. I did notice a slight leak on the right rear drum. I changed bleeder valves but I do not believe that's where it was coming from. It appears to be the line near it. I will be looking into that tonight.

That's cool, I've got a buddy in my unit works in the/an? ER up there. On that leak check both the line and the wheel cylinder, if it's a slight leak and looks like it's coming from inside the drum I'd probably think it's more likely the cylinder... But unless they've been changed the lines are likely getting thin (hard lines) or brittle (rubber lines) so keep an eye on them. I blew a hard line on my scab right after starting to desmog it.

The more vacuum hoses I replaced on my 79 351m, the better it runs. Do the differentials, coolant, power steering, brake fluids. Replace some of the major wiring like battery cables, etc. Clean up all of your ground connections.

I totally agree to watch the brake lines, but I'd also be watching your gas line as well just ruptured mine while playing with a bad brake line. And also there are most likely 3 spots where your fuel line will become short pieces of rubber hose, they'll need replaced as well.
