well i finally got it back from the dealer, 3weeks to rebuild the rear, what a joke this dealer is!!! all well and good if they had fixed the slop in the drive train but they didnt. Has anyone had similar probs with transfer case or rear??
Originally posted by get lit I hear transfer cases are preety junkie, about five or six of my buddies have had them go, one of them with 200 miles on the truck. anybody else??
Is it 5, or is it 6? Do you mean transfer cases in general, or are you saying the ones Ford uses, or are you saying the ones in Ford SD's with V10s? I haven't heard much talk about transfer cases at all, either way. Good, or bad, from any manufacturer. What are you guys doing to yours? I have never had any problems with any of mine, none of my friends have either, except for breaking them on rocks. Good luck getting your problem resolved, some dealers ruin it for the manufacturers.
hang 10 i was saying ford sd cases. most of are trucks are construction use . mostly owners personel truck. the one that went with 200 miles is a 1 ton reg cab with a 5.4 in it. seems like everyone i talk to in my area has had a prob with the case. door ajar switch also!!
So far, I haven't had any problems of any kind. I hope this continues. I don't know about the transfer case but my clutch feels / sounds funny once in a while. I only know one other person with a manual, his clutch is out all the time, as well as his transmission. That is an 88 F150, with the Mazda made transmission / clutch though, plus the truck does have over 400,000 miles on it.
I always heard that the ZF's were supposed to be pretty good, this is my first ZF manual, (That I know of.) The past 14 years or so, I have had automatics in everything. The last manual I had was a Ford T-5, that was in a Mustang GT, never had any problem at all out of that, no matter how I thrashed it. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the ZF6 holds up as well.
i dont know what that last post was , i`m sure the newwer zf`s are pretty good . the old ones are not that bad either just costly to rebuild and very noisy
Noisy is a fact. This thing is so loud, it sounds like I am driving a UPS truck. Until you hit highway speeds, or a constant speed, you might as well not have the radio on. When your going through the gears, all you can hear is the ZF6 whine and the V10 suck gas. It reminds you every second that your in a truck.
My brother has 100k + on a PSD and the rear is going out as well. He had it checked and one place told him run it till it dies because they can rebuild it for the same price either way.
