Question

differential gear ratios

Does anyone know a good way to find out gear ratios without tearing down to count teeth? I bought my truck & previous owner converted NP203 to parttime, however did not bother to match gear ratios.

1979 f-150 custom 4x4

differential gear ratios

Put a chalk mark on the driveshaft next to the axle. Lift the tires off the ground. Rotate the tire once, and count how many times the driveshaft rotates.

That works with a limited slip. With an open diff lift one wheel off the ground and count the driveshaft turn for 2 turns of the wheel.
