My truck isn't getting driven near as much as it used to,so I need a sunshade to block out as much sun as possible while it is sitting. What is a good brand? will a cheapo from walmart work as good as one more expensive or should I buy one specifically for my truck from somewhere? I have never had the need to own one before,so I have no experience with them.
A couple I bought at chain auto stores have had the cloth edge trim disintegrate & turn into a nasty snow/fuzz long before the aluminum material ever gave up. (Duck tape now trims the edge) Another one in the wife's Escape has lasted just fine.
I'm in for answers. I was just thinking about this recently. My truck sits all week unless there is snow on the ground. My dash is in good shape and I try to keep armor all on it about every 2 weeks but a shade would work much better. I'd measure the windshield on the inside and try to find one that is the closest fit.
I got mine where I work (dollar general) and although it is a cheapy and it doesn't fit the best (a bit long) it works great keeping the sun out of the truck since it sits for a good 6-9 hours when working with the sun facing it. I mostly got it because that vinyl seat is a scorcher after sitting in the sun for a while.

JC Whitney. they are made per your vehicle and I have had mine in the AZ. sun for 6 years and it works and looks perfect, even twisting down the ears around the mirror. It is the best one I have owned.
Mine has carpet on the dashboard.. The dashboard underneth is in REALLY good shape.. perhaps that'll help you if you can't find a shade - carpet will probably help you a lot.
You can make on I did. HD has corrugated plastic sheets that I measure the windshield and score 3lines a equal as possible. Is white and reflects.heat pretty good.
Heatshield is a really nice brand, made specifically for your vehicle. I have an 89 & 94 Bronco and they are made different because of the rear view mirror location, plus the ones I have lasted 10 + years
