Thanks SCFlareside! Those are some great pictures. I wonder if they are the original stripes and paint or restorations. The more grey one (I assume it's a different truck) has some thin paint on the front fender and looks like it might be original.
The Freewheel packages A and B were pretty heavily promoted in the brochures, but evidently they didn't sell very many. It was a "sport" package that was pretty much just the pin stripes, certain 2-tone paint schemes, or the rare chromatic color transition body panels, black grille and headlight doors, and either sport wheel covers, white steel wheels, 10 hole aluminum or 5 hole slotted aluminum wheels, and the high end Freewheel package B had the Marchal fog lights. It seems that the Freewheel packages were dropped after '81 and replaced by the XLS trim line.
That brought back memories. I had an '81 Bronco that looked just like the one at top left. Except mine didn't have the under bumper fog lights and I don't remember the grill being black. And yes, the vinyl was reflective.

I would LOVE to have one like that. According to the author of the Freewheel FB page it was available for one year only in 1981. I like the chromatic theme best on the black body paint.
This is an oddly striped truck. The flares are boxed in on each beveled face. The truck does not particularly look restored (at least not recently) ha ha, but certainly no way of knowing if the stripes are original or not. Also there is no stripe around the side window... Geez I'm glad I don't live in the rust belt. So sad what it does to old trucks

I don't see why those stripes could not be duplicated. I don't know how much it would cost, but occasionally I get to watch cable tv and several times have caught those car guys doing projects and using vinyl graphics. I remember that monkey garage guy doing that Ford Fairmont in chrome vinyl, and I remember some other show where they made a tour bus for some orange drink company and had these wild vinyl graphics put on the whole side of the bus.

There is an ongoing discussion on the Facebook page with some guys who want to get the stripes reproduced and are looking into options. If they got a decent deal on some I would definitely buy a set and then go about finding a Bronco to put them on...

Hi guys, I do run that facebook group, and am working with one of the other '81 FW Bronco owners to have those stripes reproduced. They made just over 3000 "free wheeling" broncos in '81 (That includes Package A and Package B), although it's thought that only around 500 or so had the chromatic stripe option.
For now, the facebook group is definitely the place to keep up to date on those broncos, the Free Wheeling F150s, and any of them that are discovered on craigslist!
