I was under the impression all the later rear D60's were fine spline? Last night I went to rob some brake hardware off the axle of the 78 F250 4wd parts truck I had bought and found it had the old style axles in it.
I was looking at the perches last night and they look as factory as they get. I didn't look real close for numbers but I'm wondering if the axles and carrier were changed. I would think that stuff was interchangeable between the housings. I just don't know why someone would bother.
I'll have to look tomorrow and see if it is date stamped. Just looking at the front axle to the back one my guess would be they were the matched set that came with the truck.
I tried looking this number up on the Dana website but it wouldn't pull anything up. I've used it before on both D60 fronts I have and it worked so I idk. Maybe someone else can identify it.
The Dana 60 BOM number (stamped on the axle tube or on an ID tag adjacent to the inspection cover) consists of 6 or 7 numbers, like these examples: 603717-1 or 603717-11.
Ford rear axle ID tag is under 2 of the bolts that retain the inspection cover to the housing.
