Time to figure out A new mount for coolant filter

Hey guys I'm wondering about some of your coolant filter mounts

This pic is what I made 4-5 years back

It cracked and broke straight across where the hole was drilled for the radiator mount it started cracking down the edges the one of the diamonds and eventually cracked all the way through

The weird thing is is I knew it was cracking in a week ago but yesterday I had my truck in for safety inspection yesterday my wife took it in when I was checking the truck out when I got home I noticed they didn't close the hood all the way so I started investigating and that's when I found it completely broke off

So last night I took it off and put the factory radiator mount back on it

But I think I might want to remount it differently something more solid

Maybe a thicker aluminum 1/4"?
looks like it will fit in that hole next to washer fluid, so maybe no need for bends too.

I kick myself for leaving behind 2 4'x4'x1/4" sheets of of aluminum when I got divorced, just didn't have a place for it. a few other things too but that crap is expensive AND I have a use for most of it right now.

I actually mounted mine up in the front right wheel well. I use one of the bolts that hold the bumper/tow hook to secure the filter base.
I also installed two ball valves to easily replace the filter without spills.
I'll have to go out a take a picture and add it in to the post.

Late response, but I put mine in front of the passenger tire behind the bumper.

I drilled 2 pilot holes in the frame and used self tapping screws to attach the filter base.

My reason for the location is because I figure each time I have to work on the motor there would be one less thing to remove or be in the way.

If I can keep the mud and snow off it I should be OK.

Very nice set up. Easy to replace the filter when necessary. I don't have mud or snow to deal with but it shouldn't be of too much an issue with a garden hose.

It's a nice clean installation. Just think you need to find that mouse that nibbles on your positive cable cover.

A little hard to see but here's my coolant filter mounted up in front of my front passenger tire.

Great pics guys thanks

I like the angle iron off the alternator if I did something like that then I won't have to reroute houses and stuff and it looked very solid

I do like the idea of the frame mount

I'll have to call under there this weekend and see if I can find somewhere on the frame maybe by the fuel filter or the passenger side frame back in that same general location it might be worth buying a new hose

If I did move that filter back underneath the cab on the frame does anyone think it would have a hard time pushing coolant through it being that it would be a longer run

I did drill out the plastic in the top of the filter when I change it from little 8th inch hole up there about a half inch or five eights and all my house is a route run in 5/8"

Since it routes into the heater hose, beyond the water pump, I'd expect that the pump pressure would still allow the filter to be mounted a bit away and still function.
I would though, keep it close to the engine compartment, to eliminate any possibilities.

It is a bypass filter, so it should be fine anywhere you mount it.

If it was a full flow probably not

I mounted mine to the right of the radiator (left as you look at it). Small piece steel bracket. Its up next to the battery. Little bit of hassle to change but it only about 5 min job to get out. Sorry no pics.

The mounting on the top of the alternator is very very solid and it gives easy access to the filter (there is kind of a space that looks like it was meant to be right there!
