engine swap
Engine seized (210k miles!), so swapping out this weekend.
Any recommendations for what to change while im in there? Already changing the clutch slave cylinder. Thought about doing clutch as well but the one in there has done very well.
Certain gaskets/etc?
many thank in advance
Some standard things to do that I found are:
Valve cover gaskets (glad i did mine because the previous ones were shot)
Intake manifold gaskets (especially if you're removing the intake to do the job, which I had to do)
Spark plugs, & wires if you have 'em
Oil pan gasket & main seal if you think there's any possibility that it's leaked before
If the engine is not out of the exact same truck and year as yours, switch out all of the sensors (oil, crank, knock, etc. etc.). Just put the engines side by side and look 'em over for any other differences. Might want to keep your intake manifold and throttle body if there are any differences there.
I would also strongly recommend doing the clutch while you're in there (unless it was just done recently) since a clutch plate isn't too much $$ and it's a wearing part.
Last, make sure the flywheel is good to go in the new one and switch it out if the new motor was an auto.
Good luck!
yes used. the engine i was getting was sold by the time I called, so ended up getting a 2000 4.2. Its got a different intake. Im not sure if I will swap them or not, but after a ton of research, my list is very close to what you suggested

valve cover gasket
RMS
intake gasket
used engine came with clutch kit still installed, so Im gonna see if either one is in good enough shape to keep. This is my weekend only haul truck, so dont want to drop the $200 there unless i have to.
my old engine i had just redone the intake gaskets and still needed to do the screw sleeve things (whatever they are called) - i already bought them, so I may switch all that over to.
thanks for the reply!
