There is a rubber cube mounted to the lower control arms on my truck. It's purpose seems to be to limit the amount that the suspension can compress.
My question has to do with the metal part that is welded onto the frame which it comes in contact with. Those metal parts on my truck have a hole rotted thru the bottom of them which leaves nothing for that rubber cube to rub against when the suspension compresses.
So, should I be concerned about this? And with that not able to function as it should, does it result in my shocks limiting the amount the suspension can compress?
hmm....I never even knew that there's supposed to be a rubber piece there....Mine have both rotted out holes in the bottom of them.....Ive had my truck for close to 7 yrs now and never remember seeing them there ever....
I'm not trying to insult you but by the looks of the deterioration; if other parts of the chassis is looking much the same, the truck is ready for the scrap yard pretty soon.
What I would do is check for some solid metal above the area to weld onto with a piece of shaped flat stock 2 inches wide down over the area and back to another good area to weld to.
The flat stock will need to be at least 1/4" to 5/16 inch thick to not deform if hit by the bump stop rubber.
The rubber bump stop still looks ok but the chassis is in pretty sad condition.
It's a judgement call.
Good luck.
Ouch...honesty can hurt. lol. No insult taken. This is actually the worst of the rot. The body mounts and whatnot aren't rusted like that.
Would you use only 1 length of flat stock or 2 side by side?
Do the job from the point of max strength.
If the bumper hits it will be hard at times, so you want the least tendency to bend upward due to poor design or to light a metal.
If you were to go off road rough terrain, it would test the job pretty quick.
Good luck.
