Hello all, I am new to FTE so here is a little bout my rig. I have a 2013 4x4 King Ranch, srw, sb, with 3.5" pro comp nitro level kit, bilstien 5100s, bilstien steering stabilizer, air lift 5000 ultimate and wireless air controller, front grill and lug nut covers painted to match truck in tuxedo black, stock 20" KR rims powdered coated black and Amp research power steps.
With the new lift kit the stock Michelin ltx a/t 2s 275/65/20s are a little small(34.1") tall. I would like to install a set of Toyo Open Country R/Ts 35x12.5x20s because of the 45000 mile tread warranty, plus they look awesome IMO. I was at a national tire chain (cough discount tire cough) and was told that a 12.5 wide tire won't fit on my rims because the stock rims are to narrow. Is this true or are they just telling me what their computer is telling them? I know that cooper offers the sst pros in a 295/65/20 but they are a little much for me. That being said any one out there running a 35x12.50x20 tire on stock 20x8 rims? Any advice on this matter is appreciated. Thanks
12.50 is too wide for a 8" wheel. Usually the minimum is 9".
You can mount them, and they will fit, but they will look more like bicycle tires with the centers bulging out. You'll have poor handling, poor ride, abnormal wear, and a very short tire life of you put them on your wheels.
My wife and I use Discount Tire exclusively, and have done so for years. I have never found them to be anything but honest and knowledgeable. Their system is a database of what works and what doesn't work as far as wheel and tire combinations.
Ask a few other shops if you are that unsure. Try TireRack.com
I run the tire size you are interested in, but I wouldn't do it on stock rims. In addition to the wheels I got being wider (9inch), the offset is also more (-18) to avoid any rubbing stop to stop.
