Chip HELP!
does it plug into the OBDII port?
see if there is a power level 0 or stock then after you do that, you can just unplug it.
looks like that company is out of business now, and they have some pretty crappy reviews like you said. i would chunk it.

Check out the diesel forum for more info.
DP Tuner chips are ok. That's what I have in my truck, as it was in it when I bought it. I have since had the tunes updated for my new larger injectors.
That said, the PHP (Power Hungry Performance) Hydra chip seems to be the most popular these days. It also has the advantage of being able to support tunes from a number of different tuners/vendors. With the DP product (F5 or F6), you're locked into using only DP's tunes.
As far as your current Western Diesel chip, everything I found indicates they went out of business nearly a decade ago. Also, I found many negative reviews about their products, including cases of severe engine damage due to their tuning methods and theories. Tuning knowledge has progressed significantly in the intervening years. I would suggest ditching that unsupported ticking time bomb asap, and get a modern chip/tuning.
Also, don't waste your time with Edge/Bully Dog, etc... if you ever plan any significant mods, such a turbo upgrades and/or larger injectors. Those "canned" off the shelf type tuners ONLY work with stock hardware. Once you start modding things, you will need custom tunes, which those off-the-shelf products don't support.
