Wow, interesting thanks! It seems to be pretty capable indeed, I am taking a hard look at it then, would like to install 2 DVD monitors for the kids in the Drivers seat back "headrests": https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...installed.html

so this might be capable then of powering them, and that would be perfect!

Turthfuly, had to Google Dongle- seems to be capable of accepting your PC with that then, one can hook a computer up to it?

Yeah, it's really just supposed to be a lightweight controller. I would never thing about using a PI to act as a media center.

Looking on the site, I saw 2 rca out for video. Didn't look to see if it was dual zone or not.

They don't have the processing power nor memory to run this well

Nice video. I just called Crutchfield and they said I would have to have a continuous wifi connection for this to work. I understand to download apps, but once downloaded, such as Torque Pro, it should work all the time via bluetooth, regardless of wifi connection, right?

Torque uses Bluetooth for obd. Nothing crutchfield offers can do this.

WiFi is only required when you use internet based apps, such as Google maps. You can download sygic, which has offline maps and use it for navigation.

Don't get advice from crutchfield concerning things they don't sell/understand. They are in the business to make money, not to help you.

I am pretty sold on these, high on my list of things to do! I was thinking, a few other questions, if it has 3/4G and WiFi, do you have to pay for that service? Like I would on my phone and such? To download apps and use some software?

Also, as I drove around to day, using my existing DVD player I noticed it ties into me existing 6disc head unit and within that I have the option to have kids in the back with head phones (listening to DVD) then switch the radio on for front passengers, would I be able to integrate that into this Kitkat unit?
Thanks again,
Devon

You can add 3g with a dongle plugged into one of the usb port. Some people buy a pay-as-you-go cell data sim from virgin mobile with a 1gb data cap. I personally tether my android auto unit to my 4g phone for data via wifi, as I have no data cap. You can pick up wifi at most fuel stations and restaurants, and if your router is close enough, at home.

I'm not sure how your existing system will be able to be connected, and that may be a downfall to this type of unit. You may have integration problems no matter what aftermarket unit you use.

But as long as I connect via wifi, I can download apps to the radio? Like torque?

Yes. As long as you have at least wifi, you will be able to download any app from the play store (except MightyText).

And does it have a regular radio tuner that I can pick up local radio stations? Sorry for the elementary questions, just never used one of these before.

Yes, they use a "ripped off" version of pioneer's RDS. It works very, very well. You will pick up stations you never knew existed that are very far away. I live in east central Virginia and can pick up FM radio stations from Baltimore and NC.

I'll make another video tomorrow and outline some, if not most of the features that this unit has.

Torque only needs a bluetooth connection to your obd2 adapter, nothing else. There are some features that need internet but that's to record stuff. Not needed most of the time.
