Yeah.... no doubt. Sounds like you handled it the right way. I imagine they came out of that chat with a clear understanding.
I'm not one to get bent out of shape over material things unless you destroy them intentionally, then I can come unwound. Now I've gotta have a talk with them about throwing trash on the ground, candy wrappers and such I can't stand. Even when I smoked I never threw my butts on the ground.
But overall they are great, well mannered kids, just gotta get used to my ground rules if they're going to hang out here.

I think most folks think the way you do Jeff, things happen...just don't do it intentionally. Years ago, I loaned a vehicle to someone while theirs was in the shop. When I finally got it back a couple of months later, there was crap all over the back seat. I realize kids will be kids (especially the young ones)...but the parent couldn't at least clean the mess up???
I used to think I was decent at this tech stuff...it took me the better part of 15 minutes to upload this from the iPhone. At any rate...years ago when diesel was still around $4.00 a gallon someone asked me when I was going to shave my beard (it was the middle of summer). I said when diesel drops below $2.00 a gallon I'll shave...thinking we'd never see it again. Looks like I just might be eating crow soon and shaving folks! This is what I paid yesterday morning in Muskogee. Paid $2.13 last week in LR on University (just north of I-30).
I guess we get screwed down here where the fuel is refined because ours is fresher.. Lowest price for diesel here is $2.45 at Murphy. :-(
Got to be the taxes...I mean there's no such thing as corporate greed in this world we live in. At the station around the corner from the house, it's $2.24 which is generally the lowest place in Fort's Myth. In Tulsa it's around $2.15...where there is TWO refineries. Best I can figure that station in Muskogee is in a price war with the WalMart and another place near by. It was there back in early August I saw diesel for $2.19 while gas was still above $2.30...like it should be. It sure is great to fill the tank and not have to drop a Franklin to do it.

Yeah, I can relate to that one. My work truck has a 35 gal. tank and if I let the fuel light come on it tends to hurt the pocketbook. Locally the price of fuel has dropped to $2.37 at Murphy, my problem is I'm seldom on that end of town. We do have an Exxon Rapid Stop close to the shop I work at often that is usually $.02 higher that Murphy. All of the other fuel stops around here are still getting $2.59.
It's been 2.19 in Searcy for a couple of weeks now.
When I was home last week, it was still $2.24, maybe we'll get there eventually.

Had to look at that twice, thought you were talking about diesel for a moment. Seems like the last time it was that cheap around the rock was right before W came to power. I still remember getting the lecture from a former boss when diesel went to $1.01 and how they were turning down the top end speed of the T600 (C12) I was driving at the time...it was costing the company too much for me to blaze across Ark.
Jeff or anyone else have much experience with a Ford 4500 backhoe? A friend of the family purchased one last weekend and is having trouble getting the backhoe end of the machine to work. My thoughts are it's out of hydraulic fluid...but he says they poured a full five gallon bucket into it, and it started to overflow out the breather on the tank. They had the front bucket all the way up in the air...so I'm thinking the pump is fine. Any thoughts I should pass along?

Will it attempt to work if you try two functions at once? If so there are so very small priority valves in the valve bank that the o-rings are washed out on. Other than that not much experience with the Ford equipment.

Didn't try more than one...just tried moving the out riggers (stiff legs) and pull the boom up. No response and didn't hear any fluid going through the valve body. I'll ask him if can/has tried two functions as once.

I wish our Kroger had diesel.

Does it have a filter? On my little tractor when the filter plugged the bucket quit while the rear hydraulics continued to function. Can't answer why as its all the same system, but a new filter got it all working.
Did y'all see it in the news today where VW admitted they were cheating the EPA mandates with improper tuning on their TDI equipped cars? Sounds like it's fixing to get really ugly in Farfegnugen land.

To heck with the Kroger, I would be thrilled beyond belief if diesel was $0.99 a gallon. Heck, I'd shave my head!

I'll suggest that as well. While I don't know much about this machine, just looking at it...it's clear it's had a hard life. Mis-matched rear tires, under sized battery and dry rioted looking hoses were what tipped me off. I know he didn't pay allot for it, but I think I would have just rented one with the money instead of picking up someone else's problem.
