I have a 1992 F150 4.9L 6 cyl. 5 speed overdrive 2 wheel drive. The other day the speedometer suddenly stopped working and the odometer is blank. No burned out fuses that I could find. From a little research, it sounded like the speed sensor went bad, so I replaced it (located on differential). That didn't fix the problem.
I know I should have checked codes first. Well next I checked the ABS system codes. The test point was behind the glove box, contrary to what my Haynes book said. I found the connector with the black wire and orange stripe and grounded it with the ignition on. After about a second the ABS light comes on and stays on as long as it is grounded. Remove wire, light goes out, connect and it goes back on. Best I can tell it is sending no codes.
Also, this connector wasn't connected to anything, and I can't find another connector for it to mate to. I don't know what to make of that.
I checked both fuses for continuity and checked for power at fuse box--they all checked out ok. So I guess I have a bad PSOM. Will replacing the speedometer fix this? I can actually get one with an odometer reading pretty close to what the truck has, so I don't have to worry about resetting it.
