Granted i got my truck cuz of the price and just wanted a diesel. My best friend bought a 24 foot tritoon, prob only weighs about 3500-4000 lbs but his H3 with an inline 5 struggles to tow it. He wanted to go boating today and asked if i would want to tow it and he would pay for my fuel. He rode with me and the kids n women followed in the H3. I have towed alot of stuff in my time from bass boats to excavating equipment, this truck is a beast. Ran average of 65mph through alot of hills, some near a mile long and fairly steep grade. Granted the turbo was getting more use than it has, but my trans temps never went over 200, egt never went over 1100, and the hottest my oil temp got was 212.
He just kept saying, i need one of these, my H3 could never do this..... this was all factory settings on my Edge evo 2, it was in there when i got the truck and i have never ran any of the performance settings. I was tempted to try the tow setting on the way back, but I talked myself out of it after thinking of all the negative stuff i have read about them here. But i think i am going to start looking into a tuner. I also kept track of fuel, we topped it off when we left and right after dropping the boat off when we got back, i averaged right around 11-12 mpg. Im pretty happy with that, esp since he said he gets about 7 with his H3. Just want to get a few more things squared away before i add a tuner. I feel i have the truck at 100% now, but want to add a coolant filter first and a few other things like that.
