I may have the option to buy a 99 7.3 not sure if it is an early or late 99 I haven't seen the truck. Just have talked to the seller and I have been told it needs a tranny and a turbo. But the really problem that has been told to me is that it needs a new computer. The symptoms that were described to me was that it runs fine till the engine gets up to operating temperature then it just dies. What is your guys opinions on the possibilities of what it could be? I'm just trying to see the possible options that could be wrong and if it is the computer where can it be set to get fixed.

The "dies when warmed up" symptom is typical of a failing IPR. If the IPR works again after cooling with ice or cold water, that pretty much confirms it. IPR is $180 or so and very DIY. Not sure how you can check that with the seller standing around...
If it runs fine otherwise the PCM (computer) is probably fine.
This could be a good deal for a guy willing to invest some sweat equity.
I am willing to put in the sweat and time to get it going. I think he said 300k not to sure. he said he should know tomorrow about the price it was a repo and he is a dealer. he took the transmission out of it and put it in a different truck he was selling not to sure why the turbo is gone but that is gone as well I am thinking about buying it because mine needs alot of tlc. I know it is an extended cab short bed automatic and it is red. Not a big fan of red but if the price is right in will drive it. I will try to get more info off of it as soon as I can so I can get help here on figuring out of it is an early 99 or not and see if any one has extra parts they would be willing to trade for some cash
Nothing wrong with an E99, I do have an E99 turbo that I just rebuilt 4 or 5 months ago but went a 38R. An E99 turbo only works for an E99 truck and can not be changed out, just a heads up on that.
Scottahoe I was kinda hoping that you would see this post cause I have been reading your post. I do know that about the early 99 and maybe we can work something out for it. So hopefully I will know more about it tomorrow. I try and get the build date from the guy tomorrow so we all will know. But knowing my luck it won't be an early 99
Thanks for reading my thread and hope it has been helpful. No big deal if it is a 99.5 either still have forged rods and more (easier) options on turbos. Keep us posted.
My truck was a repo i bought from the bank, through my buddy who is the repo guy. It had 182,000 on it and i paid 3000 cash. Since i bought it in may i have put around 4500-5000 into it to make it right, that included changing every fluid in it when i first got it, new batteries, new brakes, and 2600 to build the transmission which went out after 2 months. I only tell you this info because what i paid is prob near what the dealer paid for the one your looking at, maybe even less. I could be wrong, just wanted ya to be aware. And if the dealer hasnt already, make sure you change every fluid and filtwr when you get it. Most people that can't afford their car payments tend to grossly neglect maintenance.
All that said, i absolutely love my truck and have zero regrets on the purchase.
I have figured it would be that much the get her good but before I dump alot on money into her my first step is to get her to stay running when warmed up then it should game on from there till and I am hoping that when I do get it driving there isn't more surprises in store for me......
I still get worried about suprises!! Lol, maybe im juat a lil more paranoid, but thats the down side on buying a repo. Every little sound that sounds funny makes me turn the radio down and go, whats that.
One thing i lucked out on was i found via papers/reciepts in glove box is It had a new hpop put on last fall. So i know thats new
Yeah that is how I am when it comes to noises as well. But that is a good note that it has been replaced and should save you from some headaches later on down the road. I'm still waiting on the pictures and build date. I'm just looking forward to the headache of finding a trailer and how to load it and all that good stuff..... but if the price is good I will jump through flaming hoops to get it to the house

Quick question why can it not be swapped out and what qualifies as a E99?pre February of 1999?

The housing/diameter of the compressor outlet is different/smaller on the e99 and I don't think there is any such thing as an adapter. The exhaust inlet and adapter are different.
An engine with a build number/serial number below 896812 during the 98-99 build year is considered to be e99....at least that is what the tech service bulletin that I have states.
As far as the truck and suspension are concerned there are minor differences.
