New Guy

Hi. Im new here. Picked up a 1966 F100 Stepside the other day on a trade. All original GA truck and that's where it will be restored and stay since i live in northern GA. Im a Mopar guy, born and raised around them, so this should be a fun experience. I am 23, currently working in a body shop, but Im not new to cars. Ive done plenty of restorations, including the motorcycle I traded for this truck. This is actually my first Ford, and Im excited to see it when its done. Ive done countless engines, trucks, cars, and boats. Hoping to get some insight and see yalls other builds, and here to learn some new info, because no one knows everything right.

About the truck. All original, it has been repainted and it was wrecked on the drivers side. I have the original door with the original glass. it is a 300 L6 with the 3 on the tree, and it was converted to an auto with a c4. Tailgate is missing, and there are some small rust holes in the rear, but all in all, its much better than the 1966 Chevy C10 I did a couple years back. I do have a 1972 351w, that i may toss in the truck.. Still tossing ideas around and coming up with my renderings. First thing is first, the PO accidentally welded the axle in upside down (funny story) but that is first on the list to correct.

Big_Texxan Welcome to and the Slicks Forum.

Your 351W is a plant, it was in the 80s before a W was installed in a Ford pickup. You can move the engine with perches and trans to this truck as it is bolt hole exchange.

Many of us upgrade to power steering and power disc brakes by buying a 73-79 donor and swapping the I-beams and other brake parts.

There are other options available if you want to share your thoughts.

oh yeah. I was excited when I got the engine code off it to find out its a 72.

power steering would be nice, but then again Im used to not having it from racing and such. Its an option on the table. Front Discs are a must! I was doing some research on the Crown Vic swaps too? Anyone done those here? I wouldnt mind loosing the I beam and swapping IFS, but time is money, and money is time on this build. It will have some custom touches to it as all my projects do, but the front end is the big grey area on this build so far.

The rear will most likely get the rear drums rebuilt, get a posi unit installed and the rear axle rebuilt, sway bars added, and dropped a tad. Im also still debating swapping the 5x5.5 pattern to the 5x4.5 pattern all around too.

351W: 1969/89 misc Ford/Merc Passenger Cars / 1975/97 Econoline / 1980/89 Lincoln Town Car / 1981/96 F150/350 / 1997 F250/350.

1957/72: TWO different Flareside (a Stepside is a Chevrolet ) Tailgates:

B7C-8340700-A .. Flareside Tailgate - Use with 6 1/2' bed - 49 13/16" long.

B7D-8340700-A .. Flareside Tailgate-Use with 8' bed - 54 13/16" long.

This truck is not all original! Repainted and/or converted to an auto nullifies any possibility.

All original means as it drove off the assembly line.

I guess I should have worded it better. I got a 351 with the deal. The truck is ALL original besides the automatic that was placed behind the 6 cylinder that's IN the truck and the brown/cream paint job. I have the ORIGINAL 3 on the tree tranny, in the bed of the truck.

Appreciate it. Progress will be slow, I have another love that needs attention, along with 2 more vehicles that need some work.

Yeah thats why I got rid of my motorcycle. working 70 hours at my last shop job made me not want to do anything. Then this new job opened the door for the 66 and my business to grow. My daily got the attention tonight so I am now have a little more free time to mess with the 66 tomorrow

my "other love" was feeling a little abandoned, too. but we've been married for over 25 years, so you'd think she'd be so sick of me by now that she'd like me disappearing into the garage for a while.

The plate on the drivers door holds the information you need to see what was in it when it was made. the door looks replaced and -- many times the plate is not. Post a picture of the plate and some here will decipher it for you. You should also check the number stamped into the top of the frame (passenger side) - hard to find- and that will help you when you go to register it. They should match if they don't be sure the sales you have matches the one "hidden" on the frame.

Warranty Plate riveted to the left door face below the latch. If the door was replaced, more than likely, the codes on the Warranty Plate will not match your truck.

People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plates on the replaced doors.

thanks for the info, and yes, the origional door is in the bed with the windows. The only thing missing is the tailgate. Even the original wood slats are there, rotted I might add, but I can get in the bed and it will hold me just fine.... Not saying I will jump up and down and test the 50+ year old wood strength

If you take a picture of the warranty plate on the original door we can decode it for you. Or hand scribe what you see. Pic is the easiest and if a good clean shot it is also usually the most reliable method.
