HELP

I own a 2006 F-150 4X4 5.4 3V. I bought the truck from a private seller a couple of months ago. My wife mostly drives the truck. This morning on her way to work she rear ended someone. I will be selling the truck because she will never trust it again. While trying to stop the truck. It all of a sudden accelerates and the brakes will not work. This is the 4th time this has happened and she hit someone this morning. It only happens when you are going at lower speeds thank god. She told me this and I didn't listen to her. That was my fault. I have a new grand baby and will never trust the truck again. I like fords but probably will never buy another one. Just can't take the chance. I am taking it to a dealer on Monday but I really don't think they will find anything because it runs great most of the time. I would really appreciate anyones help. Thank You.

The vast majority of information suggests that the problem is due to the operator and/or pedal location. The braking system and accelerator system are independent systems.
You should definitely sell the truck since she is uncomfortable driving it and has had multiple problems operating it. You should also make sure that she is wearing proper shoes - sandals, flip-flops, and heals are not good; sneakers are good.

Thanks for the info but I have to disagree. I suggested this to her after a couple of times so she has since then been very cautious of this. If you would google sudden acceleration while braking 2006 f150 you will find that this has been a situation when many other people and it's not from hitting the brake and gas at the same time. There have been law suits filed against Ford. It states that these do not have brake override technology. Ford started installing it in all vehicles it makes in 2010. The problem lies in the electronic control of the gas pedals, making them susceptible to sudden, unintended acceleration.

Thank you for the respectful response.
Without some kind of meaningful proof, neither one of us is going to change our opinion as to the cause.
In the meantime, hopefully we can agree that proper footwear is very important.

Accidents do happen. Fortunately, my nephew and niece were standing to the side (as they were taught) when my mother mistook the gas for the brake and caused only $3000 of damage.

If anyone has a particular link that they would like a technical review of fact versus fiction, please post.

Even if this was true, this would explain a sudden acceleration. Since the brakes are independent and stronger than the engine, the brakes will stop the vehicle (if they are pressed).
I searched like you suggested and the vast majority of people explained that there problem was indeed due to footware.

It is possible you may have a faulty accelerator module. I've heard of a few being fixed by replacing it.

Curious, if you're set on selling the truck, what help are you asking for?

I have never believed in sudden unintended acceleration. It always happens during braking on all the different cars/vehicles involved. Since all those vehicles have very different systems design and technology, even going back to mechanical throttle linkage, the only commonality involved is that it 'happens' during braking. This is obviously operator error. The syndrome is so common that incidents of vehicles crashing into buildings/cars, etc. instead of stopping appear only in local news now instead of national news like they once did. That's because no fault was ever found in any vehicle involved in an incident that could cause unintended acceleration. AUDI suffered for years because people believed the cars were at fault during that flap. People simply make mistakes. They should admit it.

Agree. I would also add that brakes are stronger than the engine. So if you have sudden acceleration, the brakes will stop the car (if the drive pushes the brake pedal down).
The only way for these reported incidences to not be due to the operator/pedal position is if the brake system also has an intermittent failure that just happens to occur only when the accelerator intermittent failure occurs. Note that since these systems are completely independent, the operator is the only commonality.

Regarding your statement that "they should admit it". Many people have admitted that their problem was due to their foot ware/pedal position https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...n-in-f150.html,

others can't admit to a thought that they are just not able to entertain.

Most importantly, teach kids to stay out of the "line of fire", and proper foot ware matters.
