Ok Guys, question time. I have aquired some 2005 axles and needed parts for a swap. These came off of an F350 though. Adapters are off of the front and it's VERY big but should be pretty straight forward.
The rear is a total other story, it's a DRW axle. Can I make this fit? Thing is gigantic!
I have a 2000 4x4.
Thanks
Can you make a DRW Dana 80 the same width as a SRW sterling 10.5 ? Yes of course. Plenty of guys even use the Dana 80 in jeeps. Use some Google foo to figure out the exact process required to obtain your desired width. It could be as simple as swapping hubs or a PITA as retubing the center section. My guess is that it will be somewhere in between. Probably new spindles and use Dana 70 hubs. But that is just a guess. Been awhile since I fiddled with a Dana 80
Thinking about that for another minute, Might be easier to use the sterling hub since ford uses the 170 bolt pattern and I don't know of a d70 hub with 170
So Dana 80 using sterling 10.5 hubs and spindles with custom axles.
So ya, doable. Not sure why you would do that for an EX though. The sterling is plenty reliable and I can't imagine you are exceeding the towing capacity enough to fail it. And since you would be switching to the smaller sterling spindle , wheel bearings and brakes you are only gaining the extra strength of the Dana 80s 11.25 gear set.
