what is the weight when I should be concerned about turning off my OD?
had my owners manual stolen(of all things) when my truck was broken into so I cant look there and I haven't found a definitive answer anywhere else yet.
truck is a 99 v10 auto 4x4. im towing a travel trailer that weighs 3500-4000 loaded. I know for serious hills, up or down to turn it off, but will it hurt anything on mostly flats to leave it in OD?

No, it will not. And isn't it an automatic? Won't it downshift automatically going uphill if it is needed? When I was towing my 9,100 pound travel trailer I didn't turn off the OD going uphill. The computer did a good job of deciding when it was time to downshift, and I let it do it's thing.

This is why I hardly ever turn mine off even when towing my trailer, which is also not very heavy. The only time I manually turn it off is coming down large grades for engine braking, otherwise I just let it figure it out most of the time. There are a few roads though around where we camp that steep, flat, steep, flat and the hunting gears can get annoying so I'll turn off OD temporarily just until I get through those sections.
This is good to hear Mark, I've always been afraid of damaging something. I got a 9000 lb.travel trailer I've always towed with OD off except on long down hills. Might get another .5 mpg.
