Here in beautiful Connecticut (truly is) we have emissions testing on diesels. I just completed mine today and the sniff test, which only checks on opacity, reported that my truck has an opacity of 2.6 out of a permissible 20.
Now, I wonder in the real world how comparable this is to others. Please share your numbers.
Note, I have a PowerMax turbo, tuned by Gearhead, running the 8K tow but otherwise stock everything, including an EGR (albeit bulletproof version).
Wow Im surprised that CA wasn't the 1st to sniff test diesels!
we only have a visual inspection of parts, and the "snap test" - while at Idle quickly press and release the throttle inspector determines if too much smoke came out.

X2 they are normally the hardest!
also im surprised they leave it up to the inspector on the amount of smoke.
I once made a suggestion once instead of spending millions building wast disposal facilities, just to dump it in active volcanoes. Shurly would not release much more poloutants than was allready being released.
Not exactly a well liked suggestion. Still don't see why tho. Just me I guess.
